Functioning of Simulation

The search in this simulation always starts at the beginning or at the end of recording (according to which jumping key is pressed at first, as described under point 1 "further possibilities") with the first jump always having a start distance of 20 minutes. The maximum jumping distance is 25 minutes. After the first jump the simulation automatically changes in replay mode, that means: The replay time carries on running in realtime. The three start times (of "previous film", "searched film" and "following film") are redefined again by random numbers with each start of the simulation.

Additional Optimizations:

Tests of the simulation have proven that the following additional, small optimizations are advantageous and have been integrated in the simulation:

1. If during jumping forward the current seek area is smaller than two seconds (so that the jumping distance would be smaller than one second), the lower limit of the current seek area is set to upper limit minus two seconds, so that the distance of the jump is at least one second.

2. If during jumping reverse the current seek area is smaller than three seconds (so that the jumping distance would be smaller than 1.5 seconds), the upper limit of the current seek area is set to the lower limit plus 3 seconds, so that the distance of the jump is at least 1.5 seconds. (This minimum value is a little bit higher than during a forward jump, because due to replay operation the intervening time is automatically reached after the jump.)

3. If the limitation has been reset into the same direction by three jumps and further jumps are executed into the same direction also, the jumping distance is increased by additional 30 seconds with the fourth jump (after having been multiplied by the factor 1.4), with the fifth jump by 60 seconds, then 90 seconds etc. The advantage is that far-distant areas can be reached faster again, even if the jumping distance is already very small (thus, if the user has nearly reached a wrong target time). During the third jump (with which the original seek area is left for the first time), however, the jumping distance should still not been increased additionally.
